  1. Home

The demonstrators are a list of use cases that will be used to prove the effectiveness of the OntoCommons Ontology Commons EcoSystem (OCES) and provide insights on the use of standardised ontologies to resolve issues with material sciences and manufacturing data documentation, data re-use and cross-domain interoperability.

The demonstrators will contribute to the harmonisation of at least 10 existing ontologies and initiate the development of at least 3 new domain (or sub-domains) ontologies. A strong interaction between demonstrators and ontology developers will be paramount in order to build a set of Top Rerefence and Middle-Level Ontologies that will be beneficial to the overall European community.

  • Standardised and FAIR intra- and cross-domain data documentation Based on wide-ranging stakeholder involvement, the demonstrators will contribute to achieve an ontology-based data documentation across NMBP domains.
  • Facilitate uptake of the project's resultsStandardised data documentation and uptake of the project's results will be shown in the various demonstrators.
  • Improved ability to build interoperable software solutions in materials and manufacturing domainsThe demonstrators will serve as references for the uptake of ontology-based software.

AIRBUS DESIGN AND MANIFACTURING

AIRBUS DESIGN AND MANIFACTURING
This use case involves Airbus - a European aerospace corporation- aiming to increase interoperability and improve communication between aircraft assembly and industrial system design.

BOSCH MANIFACTURING

Bosch Manifacturing
The core of the use case relies on the semantic technologies by representing domain knowledge both for manufacturing processes and ML pipelines explicitly with ontologies. A reasoner is then able to derive feature groups from the annotated data and selects the suitable ML algorithms. This knowledge-based approach also improves explainability as both the selected features and ML models are explicitly annotated.

SIEMENS DIGITAL MANUFACTURING

SIEMENS DIGITAL MANUFACTORING
Siemens created an ontology library that includes ontologies from numerous domains as well as ontology transformations from various industrial standards. Siemens' globally distributed, heterogeneous data sources have been mapped to the ontologies in this library and stored in the data layer.

SOLUTION FOR SOILLESS CULTURE NUTRIENT

nutrient solution for soilless culture application
Automatic nutrient solution production is crucial for soilless growing, such as hydroponics. Heterogeneous IoT devices with sensors can monitor the environment and remotely operate a sequence of processes. These devices employ different communication protocols and data structures, causing interoperability issues. To address these issues, an IEEE 1872-based industry 4.0 ontology is being developed.

MATERIAL CHARACTERISATION ONTOLOGY

Materials Characterisation Ontology
The NanoMECommons project ontologizes characterisation to collect and harmonise any materials characterisation approach. Start with CHADA human-readable metadata and create an EMMO-compliant ontology.
