About

OntoCommons is an H2020 CSA project dedicated to the standardisation of data documentation across all domains related to materials and manufacturing.

OntoCommons lays the foundation for interoperable, harmonised and standardised data documentation through ontologies, facilitating data sharing and pushing data-driven innovation, to bring out a truly Digital Single Market and new business models for European industry, exploit the opportunities of digitalisation and address sustainability challenges.

Objectives

Develop a ready-to-use Ontology Commons EcoSystem (OCES) for data documentation, including a set of ontologies and tools;

Cooperate & Engage with relevant stakeholders at both EU and international level to collect existing resources and tools for data storage and identify possible bottlenecks;

Deliver a set of Demonstration Cases built upon the OCES that will prove the effectiveness of our approach through activities of harmonisation, standardisation and coordination;

Develop and roll-out an OntoCommons Roadmap that will include a number of recommendations for policy instruments towards Data Sharing for the European Single Market.

Demonstrators

OntoCommons will prove the effectiveness of its approach through a set of 11 demonstration cases.

The cases will be built on OCES and provide ready-to-use ontologies, tools and data samples in order to provide harmonisation and standardisation.

Further stakeholder involvement and international demonstrators from related projects are expected during the project.

Industrially-relevant validated use cases will demonstrate the expected impact of OntoCommons on standardisation, findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability of data.

"Formal Ontologies, Applied Sciences and Data" Workshop

Formal ontologies represent domain structures, with top-level ontologies focusing on broad notions with different models use diverse formal languages, and data become factual propositions. In order to analyse these topics in depth, the OntoCommons consortium's workshop in Bologna on October 2-4, 2023, explores formal ontology connections across disciplines.
