Overview

  • Use case description: This use case is primarily focused on improving feedstock quality assurance, specifically in the context of the metal injection molding process and the production of parts via extrusion. The process involves the mixing of metal powders and polymeric binder components, referred to as feedstock. Homogeneity, repeatability, and part qualities including dimensions and mechanical properties depend on feedstock quality, however there is no objective way to measure feedstock quality. The use case proposes a shared formal specification, an ontology, to objectively characterise the essential process and material characteristics determining feedstock quality.

  • Use case goal: The main goal of this use case is to improve evaluation and quality assurance of feedstock for further processing.
